Zazen Instruction for Newcomers (ZP Series)

Classes in meditation for those who are new to Zen practice. Also helpful for those new to ZCLA who have meditation experience with other groups. Check our curriculum for a description of these classes.

Day of Reflection
Every third Saturday is devoted to the Zen bodhisattva precepts. The day begins with a recitation of the precepts and includes zazen and face-to-face meetings with our teachers, a brief precept talk, and a precept circle. Open to everyone. For precise schedule click here.

Founders Service

Once a month we hold a special service to honor our founders, Baian Hakujun Daiosho and Taizan Maezumi Honored One, and the main ancestors of our Lineage. Service is held in the Founders Room on the Saturday closest to the 14th of the month.

Ceremony of Atonement
Every six weeks we hold a ceremony for the renewal of our vows and precepts. The ceremony includes a period of zazen, chanting, bowing, and an opportunity to bear witness to our conduct in the presence of the Sangha. Those who have received the precepts are asked to attend this ceremony regularly. Open to everyone.

Conversation About Practice (CAP)

A conversation and inquiry on practice themes are posed by a member of the Teachers Circle. The session begins with brief remarks and opening question. A talking piece is used.

Dharma Chat
Once a month on Sunday morning, we have an hour-long Dharma Chat on a topic of daily practice. We discuss how we practice in everyday life situations and issues.
